Another Life: Memories from nothing
17/11/08 || Euthanatos
If someone had put this on without telling me what it was, I would have probably guessed Nightingale. At least until the vocals came in. The two bands are insanely similar. You know Nightingale, right? Dan Swanö project with his brother, gayish goth metal, with poppy tunes? Yeah, that’s the same idea right here, in “Memories From Nothing”.
The vocals, since we touched on the subject, take a little getting used to. Not that Paganizer’s Andreas Karlsson is a bad singer, not at all. He has his chops right and is always in tune, he just has a different voice. And that’s a good thing, after all, it gives a band its own sound. Well, at least on the vocals. As I mentioned before, it sounds a little too much like Nightingale. Like, really. Like, a lot. But, this is only their debut, so maybe they’ll come into their own next time. Still, on the whole, I like most of the songs here. They are well crafted and the instrumental is decent, I particularly like the keyboards usage here. A lot of the melodies are catchy as fuck, and once you get into the mood with Karlsson’s vocals, it’s all good.
Would I recommend it to you? I guess, if you really enjoy Nightingale. After all, this is pretty much their generic version. If more melodic goth/progressive rock is not your thing, steer away.
The cover: A little shit up to some mischief. Jesus fuck, I hate kids.
